ISO TS 16949 Automotive Quality Management System

ISO TS 16949 Automotive Quality Management System

The global automotive industry requires continuous improvement, as well as the best in the world in terms of product quality, efficiency and competitiveness. To achieve this goal, many vehicle manufacturers insist that suppliers comply with the rigorous technical guidelines set out in the Quality Management standard known as ISO / TS 16949 for suppliers in the automotive sector.

ISO / TS 16949: 2009, the current American (QS-9000), German (VDA6.1), French (EAQF) and Italian (AVSQ) automotive quality system standards within the global automotive industry, eliminating the need for a wide range of certification to meet customer needs is an ISO technical specification.

ISO / TS 16949 was developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) with the participation of ISO / TC 176 representatives and experts from automotive manufacturers and trade associations.

Together with the ISO 9000 / ISO 9001 system, ISO / TS 16949: 2009 determines the quality system requirements for the design, development, production, installation and service of automotive-related products. In addition to this structure, the vehicle manufacturers and vehicle spare parts manufacturers are available separately under customer-specific conditions.

ISO / TS 16949 concerns all types of automotive supply companies, from small manufacturers to multinational organizations spread over a wide geography. This standard is a Quality Management System for suppliers operating in the automotive industry. ISO TS 16949: The 2009 standard is a standard that defines the conditions for the automotive industry and is created by harmonizing the technical standards for automotive suppliers.

ISO / TS 16949 can be applied to companies that produce raw materials and auxiliary materials and produce various service parts in the automotive sector as sub-industry, supplier and subcontractor. There are four different standards on the basis of the ISO TS 16949 Automotive Quality Management System standard, all of which are based on the ISO 9000 Quality Management System.

According to ISO TS 16949 standard, only automotive supplier companies are certified. It does not introduce new and strict rules to the existing Quality Management System standards, but gives a different perspective from the point of view of the automotive supplier industry. This new standard has been established by joining certain quality standards and special needs in the automotive sector.

The American QS 9000 standard was increasingly recognized and widespread, but this new standard, adopted by the International Organization for Standardization, was rapidly adopted. The QS 9000 standard is no longer in effect.

The ISO TS 16949 standard covers the requirements of the Quality Management System standard for the design, development, manufacture, assembly work and service conditions of automotive products. It also covers the specific requirements of automotive manufacturers.

The ISO TS 16949 standard has been jointly prepared by the International Automotive Task Force and the Technical Committee of the International Standards Organization, and automotive manufacturers and commercial organizations have also participated in the work.
The International Automotive Task Force is a group of international vehicle manufacturers.

IATF consists of the international group of vehicle manufacturers: General Motors Corporation, Ford Corporation, BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler Chrysler, Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat and Renault, as well as national trade associations; VDA (Germany), AIAG (America), ANFIA (Italy), FIEV (France) and SMMT (England). JAMA, the Japanese vehicle manufacturers association, was involved in the development of ISO / TS 16949: 2009. IATF Member Vehicle Manufacturer Companies determined the conformity and requirements of the sub-industry in accordance with ISO / TS 16949 and ensured their certification.

The company which has established within the Automotive Quality Management System has many advantages. The accumulation of know-how in the automotive sector will only be a small part of what will be achieved by gathering together and improving production quality.

The supplier chain is developing and the automotive sector sub-industry meets in the same quality system. In addition to this, the production efficiency increases, the quality of the sector increases and more reliable products are offered to the end user. Finally, the different control systems of the main industrial companies have reached a standard. ISO / TS 16949; It determines the quality system requirements for the design, design, development, production, assembly and service of products related to the automotive industry.

Different manufacturers have different requirements and have streamlined American, German, French and Italian automotive quality system requirements on the basis of this standard, and it is not a requirement that must be accepted by automobile manufacturers in every country of the world. Therefore, an organizational strategy should be prepared by the top management of the company and set out in this way.

The Quality Management System at its core requires that the system be adopted by the senior management prior to implementation. It is always recommended to seek support from an independent organization on how to install and implement the system. This will save time and effort.
