Tower Crane Grounding Periodic Inspection

Tower Crane Grounding Periodic Inspection

The working areas of the tower cranes are particularly high in height. Generally used in construction works. Tower cranes vary according to their application areas. There are self-assembling types with top towers and no top towers. Cranes with and without overhead tower are self-elevating types using hydraulic climbing system.

Self Lifting Tower Crane; They can stand at a fixed height or they can rise with it as the building rises. They are fixed to the structure by means of connection elements which are discharged at regular intervals. When the tower crane is wanted to be raised, this process is realized by adding the modular tower elements to the structure with the climbing cage on the body.

Tower cranes, which are used in many areas such as factories, shipyards and ports, are one of the indispensable tools of construction workplaces. Cranes used in the construction sector are generally mobile cranes, tower cranes or purse seine cranes. The high capacity of mobile cranes can handle a thousand tonnes of load and can be up to 75 meters. However, tower cranes are the most preferred crane model.

Usually in construction works and various factory, shipyard and so on. tower cranes operated in the workplace can cause serious hazards if improperly used and not regularly checked. In addition to the periodic inspection of the tower cranes that are currently required each year, they must also be periodically inspected for grounding, as they also work with electricity with this device.

Especially in construction sites and similar places, the rate of fatal accidents due to electric shock is very high. Since tower cranes are also electrically operated, periodic ground inspections are required for human health and worker safety. The Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment and the Earthing Regulations in Electrical Installations have brought this obligation.

Grounding is carried out to ensure that, in the event of an electrical leakage in tower cranes, the electrical current is not passed over people, but over the less earthed ground. In this way, the danger of distortion is eliminated and death events are prevented due to distortion.
