Cathodic Protection Measurements Inspection

Cathodic protection systems are an electrochemical metal protection method that is used to prevent or control the corrosion of metallic structures buried in the ground and in liquid, called cathodic protection. Generally, metals corrode when in contact with water or air. This is a serious risk, especially for metal pipes in water or under the ground.

Cathodic protection was started in 1930 years. In parallel with the technological developments, cathodic protection has become the most effective and economical method in the fight against corrosion with the presence of new high performance anodes.

Its main principles are based on the foundations of electrochemical corrosion. Cathodic protection system is an active system based on electric current to control corrosion. To prevent corrosion, this is a method of protection where a more reactive metal is placed next to the pipes in contact with them.

The reason for the cathodic process is to protect people from corrosion in the workplace. This is done by people who are familiar with the business. It gives a quality application result. When this application is performed by electrochemical means, it is clear how carefully and consciously the work should be done.

Cathodic protection tests ensure that people do not experience health problems. If the electrical current in the space is cut off after the system is installed, the harmful metal starts to regenerate. This also impairs human health. Cathodic protection methods used in different business sectors are applications that benefit the people

Cathodic protection requires electric current to control corrosion. As soon as the electrical current stops, the metal structure will continue to corrode. For this reason, the cathodic protection system should be checked at regular intervals and possible failures must be intervened immediately.

Pipelines, marine vessels, tanks, water systems and all sub-equipment including main headings are the areas where cathodic protection inspection and measurements are required. According to the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, cathodic protection inspections and measurements are required at least once a year unless other regulations and standards are stipulated.
