Generator Grounding Periodic Inspection

Generator Grounding Periodic Inspection

Grounding operations are carried out in order to prevent much worse consequences of an adverse situation in the electricity network. The energy produced reaches us over 3 networks. These are generation, transmission and distribution networks. The work done to protect human life and some devices from these networks is called grounding. This is done by connecting it to an object such as a conductive electrode placed in the soil mass.

The first thing we need to think about grounding is to ensure the safety of people who use electrical devices and to prevent damage to their devices. Grounding is the best method to prevent potential electrical hazards. This is also beneficial for the longevity of the electric vehicle. To ensure the life safety of those who use electrical devices, to prevent the devices from being destroyed and to reduce the ground coefficient of the system to small values.

An earth short in the current circuit of the electrical installation or the current emitted from the fault point in the event of an earth leakage creates a voltage drop in the installation part and the earth mass, which should not be under voltage. This could be lethal to the creatures in the vicinity. Here, grounding is carried out to transmit the voltage that occurs in places that should not be under voltage such as the bodies of electrical devices.

Generators should also be added to this group in case of electrical leakage and grounding. As a result, generators are mechanisms that generate electricity, so they must be grounded in order to prevent possible electrical leakage. Fault currents that will occur on the generators by grounding process are limited with resistance and transmitted to the ground, thus providing life and property safety. This also prevents the generation of voltage on the generator. Therefore, regular maintenance of the generators is required.

The Occupational Health and Safety Law and the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment require these inspections. Work tools and equipment used in the workplace, all kinds of health and safety measures should be taken and the minimum requirements to be observed are included in these legal regulations.
Generators, Electrical Installation, Grounding Installation, Lightning Arrester are included in the tables (Annex 3 Maintenance, Repair and Periodic Controls) in the Annex of the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment.

If there is no other period foreseen in the relevant standards for the generators, periodic inspections and munitions must be performed at least once a year. According to the Regulation, periodic inspections of earthing of electrical installations and periodic inspections of generator grounding must be carried out by electrical engineers, electrical technicians or high technicians.
