Organic Agriculture Certification Process

In organic farming, no chemicals or pesticides are used in all other processes from product cultivation, collection, harvesting, cutting, processing, sorting, packaging, labeling, preservation, storage, transportation and reaching the product to the consumer.

Organic farming; It is a production method in which every stage of production is controlled and the final product is certified. What makes organic agriculture different from other agricultural systems is the return of soil nutrients in waste products to the soil in accordance with renewable resources and recycling system.

In traditional agriculture, the same kind of products or products are usually planted for years. Biodiversity can be achieved in organic agriculture. Conservation of biodiversity is important in order not to spoil the ecological balance.

Organic Agriculture certification institutions or organizations are responsible for the following principles:

Being in harmony with nature

The first principle is to plan agricultural activities in harmony with the ecological balance, to select the product type suitable for the ecology of the region, to protect wildlife and to make the facilities and structures suitable for natural life.
To be self-sufficient. The second principle is to aim at plant and animal production, to give importance to waste management and to turn to renewable internal resources in energy supply.

Being sustainable

The third principle is to apply the crop rotation, to protect the soil, water and biological diversity and to apply economic production and operation methods in order to obtain the maximum yield from the soil.

Being healthy

The fourth principle is not to use harmful chemical products and drugs in agricultural production, to avoid biological accumulation and residues, to keep health in the forefront of human beings, animals and all other living things, and to ensure health compliance at every stage from production to consumption. ,

Be traceable

The fifth principle is to comply with standards and legal regulations in agricultural production, to keep records of all processes, to control every stage of production and to comply with the certification criteria.

The institutions or organizations producing in accordance with the above principles may apply for certification. The auditors to be assigned by the certification body shall carry out activities in the field of production in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on the Principles and Application of Organic Agriculture and on the basis of the Organic Agriculture Checklist. The auditors' work covers the use of the cultivated area in previous years, the general situation around this area and the crops grown, the practices for agricultural production, the production area and the risk situations for the crops. Auditors also review all records and reports held during production activities. When the studies are completed, a report is prepared.

If these inspections are positive, the producer or producer union shall be granted an Organic Agriculture Certificate indicating that organic farming conditions are met. If the audit work is negative, the situation is notified to the manufacturer or the producer association and the certification process is restarted after the negativity is eliminated.
