General conditions
The organization is expected to establish and operate an Occupational Health and Safety Management System to meet the requirements of OHSAS 18001 standards.
Occupational health and safety policy
In order to establish and operate OHSAS 18001 standards, the organization must have a policy approved and announced by the senior management. This is an indication that senior management also believes and supports the system.
Application and operation
Once the system is installed, the biggest responsibility is now in the top management. The organization should define the practices and activities related to the risks at the points where control and precautions should be taken during the operation of the system. It should also have action plans to prepare for emergencies.
Control and corrective action
System performance should be monitored and measured at regular intervals. When corrective and preventive action is required in any way, a risk assessment must be carried out before implementation. All records of the system must be kept and checked periodically.
Management review
One of the most important points for the healthy functioning of the system is the periodic review of the system by the senior management. This is the only way to ensure the suitability, efficiency and effectiveness of the system.
Planning
The two most important issues here are the need for hazard analyzes and risk assessments. Hazards will be identified, risks will be identified and actions to prevent them will be documented. It will also document how the organization will meet the legal regulations it has to comply with. Occupational health and safety targets will be determined for all kinds of activities.
