OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System

OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System

The OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System is based around the 5 principle.

Occupational Health and Safety Management System policy:

The organization should have a policy approved by the top management.

Planning:

Procedures should be identified and written business processes should be established in order to identify hazards, identify risks and take necessary measures.

Application and operation:

Describe practices and activities related to risks at points where control and action should be taken. Plans should be made to prepare for emergencies.

Checking and corrective actions:

System performance should be monitored and measured on a regular basis and corrective and preventive actions taken when necessary. In all cases risk assessments should be made. The system should be subjected to internal inspection at regular intervals.

Management review:

The top management of the organization should periodically review the system.

OHSAS 18001 standards do not meet specific requirements for other management systems such as quality, environment, security or financial management. However, it can be easily aligned with the standards of these systems. Integration is easy. OHSAS 18001 standards contain conditions that can be evaluated objectively. However, in order for the system to function properly, it must also comply with legal regulations beyond those promised in the Occupational Health and Safety Management System policy.
