Compressor Pressure Test

Compressor Pressure Test

As with any pressure-based equipment, it must perform certain controls and tests on compressors in terms of occupational safety and health. Pressure equipment is a risk of explosion due to misuse or delayed inspection and testing, thus compromising work safety and health.

Compressors are the leading machines used in almost every branch of the industry. Compressors can be very risky in terms of occupational safety and health, considering both their technical features and the intensity of use. Compressors have to be inspected in certain short and medium term periods and these controls should be done by authorized persons.

All kinds of inspection and control, maintenance or repair operations made to compressors converting mechanical energy to pressure energy should be recorded. After completing the assembly of the compressor and performing the necessary checks, it is necessary to carry out post-assembly tests and report by authorized personnel.

Compressed air tanks, which can be spherical or cylindrical, are placed right at the exit of the compressor. It is an important element of the system that needs attention in terms of occupational safety and health. The storage volume of the pressure tanks depends on the amount of use and is generally selected for 10-15% of the minute usage. Sometimes an extra tank is used if necessary.

Since the pressure tank is the most dangerous element, sometimes this statement is abused and only the tank is inspected and tested. Of course, such a control is not correct. Compressors that are used to convert mechanical energy into pressure energy have pressurized sections with safety valves on them, and it must be checked whether the compressors work properly in the set pressure ranges.

Tests and inspections of compressors must be carried out by technical personnel whose license is accepted by the government or local administrations and the results should be recorded in the register card or book. The pressure test at each stage of the compressors shall be carried out with the 1,5 multiples of the highest permissible pressure at that stage. Hydraulic pressure tests of pressure receptacles shall be carried out with 1,5 times the highest working pressure.

In order not to create a life-threatening situation, the compressors must be taken out while pressure testing. If there is no such possibility, the compressors should be kept in a separate explosion-proof section. In addition, if two or more compressors are used and they reach the air tank with a single pipe, each compressor must have a check valve at the outlet.
