FSC-Coc Forest Management System

FSC-Coc Forest Management System

The FSC (The Forest Stewardship Council) came together in California in the year 1993 to initiate a responsible and sustainable forest management initiative for forest products producers, users, distributors, environmental and human rights organizations. FSC, the headquarters of the German city of Bonn, has become an international organization by opening regional agencies in Europe, Asia, North and South America.

Even though it is late due to the decreasing forest area, it has become more sensitive to green area loss. Although there is more than one reason for deforestation as a result of the destruction of trees, commercial productions are seen as the main cause of the problem. Undoubtedly, forest areas are subject to intensive wood products trade, especially in areas with low economic status, especially in areas with high economic gain potential.

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organization called non-profit and is based on membership. FSC's main principles are that sensitive people come together to prevent poorly managed forest policies and make forest management systems more widespread. The Forest Management Council (FSC) is an independent organization established to improve the management of the world's forests.

Although it is an independent and donated organization, it has been very effective in a short period of time and as of 2008 year, more than 79 million hectares of forests have been certified in compliance with FSC standards.

The most basic principle of the organization is to encourage the most accurate management of all forests on the earth. FSC has identified principles of sustainable forest management and helps forestry to be run according to these principles. It has become more widespread over the years and aims to spread these practices internationally. As of 2008, a large forest area of 79 million hectares in 100 countries has been certified according to FSC standards. The FSC label seen on forest products is an element that makes it easier for the consumer to make a choice when purchasing any forest product.

Chain of Custody Certification (CoC) stands for Chain of Custody Certification. This document refers to all stages starting from the forest area of the product, covering production, transformation and distribution processes and continuously monitoring until the time it reaches the consumer. From the consumer's point of view, FSC provides information about the source of the product, while FSC-CoC guarantees that the right product is supplied in the right way.

If the FSC-CoC label indicates that the forest on which the product on which it is obtained is managed sustainably and this situation is approved by an independent organization. When we look at the latest situation in the world, the total area certified within the FSC-CoC Forest Management System has reached 107 million hectares. 58 percent of this area is natural forests, 34 percent are semi-natural and nursery mixed areas, and 8 percent are nursery areas.

Thanks to forest management in accordance with environmental conditions, timber and non-timber forest products are obtained without harming the productivity, biodiversity and ecological processes of forests. The FSC Forest Management Council seeks to ensure that all interventions in forests are made to profit in a manner that does not impair the ecological system and the balance of society.

In line with the aforementioned, FSC-CoC Forest Management System standards have been determined to achieve these objectives and have gained international quality. Today, the FSC certification is completed by the independent certification bodies, which have been accredited by FSC, in order to demonstrate that the CoC (protection and surveillance chain) management system is applied in a company that produces, processes, distributes or transforms forest products.

FSC provides information about the origin of the product, not only by businesses and companies, but also by the consumer, while FSC-CoC ensures that the right product is delivered in the right way. Independent research results show that FSC is a certification system that includes objective and verifiable minimum requirements for forest management. The FSC is the only system within the organization that addresses economic, environmental, and social issues. FSC's credibility in the world is very high and is a growing and sought-after standard.
