RoHS Certificate

What are the basic principles of RoHS Directive

The RoHS system, which forces producers of products that use harmful elements and chemicals in its content to be sensitive to the environment and human health, has been updated many times. These directives, which emerged for the first time since 2003, have been changed and updated 10 years later.

RoHS has been updated to comply with the REACH Regulation and the directives called the New Legislative Framework (new legal framework). The regulations introduced with the New Legal Framework are mainly gathered under two subjects. These are the regulations on accreditation and market surveillance for placing products on the market, and the decision that constitutes the general framework for placing products on the market.

REACH is a relatively new EU legislation, which was introduced in order to add some chemicals that were not included in the first version, and to identify other related issues. Like RoHS, REACH focuses on human health and the environment and was developed to restrict the use of chemicals to protect this area.

Principles of RoHS directive

The first principle of the RoHS directives is to protect human and human health. Most electronic devices currently used contain many harmful elements and substances that will affect human health in the short and long term.

Lead enters the human body through inhalation or digestion and creates various health problems. Lead, in particular, affects the central nervous system most in the human body. The kidneys and reproductive systems are also destroyed by the toxic effect of lead. Not only lead, but also other elements and chemicals mentioned in the RoHS directive are threatening human health.

Another principle of the directive is to protect the environment. Electronic waste is growing day by day in the world and most of them contain harmful elements and chemicals.

Electrical and electronic equipment wastes, which contain the elements and chemicals mentioned in the directive, are the urban wastes group which has the highest increase worldwide. The annual rate of increase in electronic waste is three times faster than the rate of increase in total waste. In addition to this increase, electrical and electronic waste is of greater importance due to its components.

RoHS puts the focus on recycling, and these wastes are extremely dangerous for the environment if proper recycling methods are not used. In this sense, the RoHS directive limits the use of substances that are harmful to the environment and human health and requires the recovery of electrical and electronic equipment.
